Starfield

Starfield: what we know?

I have been an avid gamer, exploring a wide range of games across different platforms throughout the years. From the classic Capcom games, Atari, and Amiga to PC gaming, I’ve tried my hands at various genres including FPS, RPG, RTS, and adventure games.

1. Introduction to Starfield: Bethesda’s Highly Anticipated New Game

1.1 The Legacy of Bethesda Games

Among the many games I have played, Bethesda’s titles have captured my attention, particularly Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 4, Morrowind on the Xbox 360, and Skyrim on the PC. Currently, I am still enjoying Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Online, occasionally diving into their immersive worlds.

However, while I have enjoyed these games, I have been eager for a new gaming experience. I am particularly drawn to exploration games like Fallout, where you start off vulnerable and ill-equipped, needing to grind and improve your character in order to survive and venture further from your starting point. I appreciate the sense of loneliness and the constant possibility of unexpected attacks, making every corner turn a moment of suspense and excitement.

Bethesda, renowned for their captivating games, has now turned their attention towards the vast expanse of space with their highly anticipated release, Starfield. Many gamers, including myself, hold high hopes for this game, as it appears to combine elements from both Fallout and No Man’s Sky based on the glimpses I have seen.

1.2 What is Starfield?

Starfield is Bethesda’s first new IP in over 25 years, and it’s taking us to the depths of space. Think of it as Skyrim meets outer space, with a dash of Fallout thrown in for good measure. While details are still scarce, Starfield promises to deliver a thrilling sci-fi adventure like no other. From exploring uncharted planets to engaging in intense space battles, this game has the potential to transport players to a whole new galaxy of excitement.

2. Setting and Storyline: Unveiling the Sci-Fi Universe

2.1 A Glimpse into the Future: Setting the Stage

Starfield is set in a distant future where humanity has finally conquered the stars. The game presents a massive universe, brimming with unexplored planets, space stations, and alien species. Bethesda has crafted a rich and detailed world, where every corner holds the promise of exciting discoveries and unpredictable encounters.

2.2 The Main Protagonist: Who will we play as?

The main protagonist of Starfield is the Spacefarer, who is recruited by Constellation, the last group of space explorers left by 2330. Bethesda has confirmed that Starfield will not have a voiced protagonist, and that all the conversations in the game will be first-person. This means that players will have to imagine what their character sounds like.

This suggests that players will step into the shoes of a dynamic and compelling hero or heroine, whose decisions and actions will shape the course of the game and the universe at large. Get ready to embark on a personal journey through the cosmos, making friends, enemies, and everything in between.

2.3 Plot details and Key Story Elements

Set in the year 2330, Starfield is a space RPG that takes players on a journey through a universe where humanity has colonized numerous planets and galaxies. Players can explore over 1,000 planets within the Settled Systems, an area of space where two major factions, the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective, have waged war for control. While the full story of Starfield remains a mystery, it is likely to involve the challenges and conflicts that arise in an interstellar civilization.

The narrative of Starfield is centered around the Settled Systems, a region of space spanning 50 light-years from our own solar system. This area is divided between two major factions, the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective, who are currently in a state of uneasy peace following a recent war.

Our research indicates that the storyline of Starfield will begin in the city of Atlantis, where players will encounter members of a group known as the Constellation. This group is portrayed as a legendary band of space explorers seeking answers to some of humanity’s most pressing questions.

3. Gameplay Mechanics: Innovations and Key Features

3.1 Exploration and Open World Gameplay

If you love getting lost in vast, open worlds, Starfield is set to deliver on that front. Bethesda is renowned for creating immersive environments, and Starfield will be no exception. Prepare to chart your own course through the cosmos, venturing into uncharted territories and unraveling the secrets of each planet you encounter. From breathtaking landscapes to hidden underground caves, there will be no shortage of places to explore.

3.2 Character Creation and Progression

In typical Bethesda fashion, players can expect robust character creation options that allow for a truly personalized experience. Want to be a battle-hardened space explorer or a charismatic diplomat? The choice will be yours. As you progress through the game, you’ll have the opportunity to enhance your skills, unlock new abilities, and upgrade your gear, further shaping your character’s journey through the stars.

3.3 Combat System and Weapon Customization

While details on the combat system are still under wraps, it’s safe to say that Bethesda will deliver engaging and dynamic gameplay. From laser pistols to futuristic melee weapons, you can expect a wide range of armaments to suit your playstyle. And who knows, maybe you’ll stumble upon some rare alien technology that will give you the edge in battle? The possibilities are endless.

3.4 Spaceships

In Starfield, spaceships serve as the primary means of transportation, allowing players to journey between planets. While flying their own spaceship, players can engage in combat with enemy spaceships. A unique feature of the game is the ability to dock and board other spaceships or structures in outer space. Once docked, players can board the other ship or star station, whether it be an ally or an enemy. From there, players can engage in a variety of actions such as boarding and disabling enemy ships, stealing ships, completing missions, and smuggling.

Spaceships in Starfield are fully customizable and feature a complex assembly system. Players can choose from a wide range of Ship Modules, including different engines, landers, and shields from various manufacturers. At any space port, players will encounter ship technicians who act as reliable merchants. These technicians offer a variety of services such as buying and selling parts, handling repair payments, and even helping players find a crew for their ship.

The ship construction process in Starfield uses a modular system made up of different sections and rooms. This system allows players to attach essential elements to their ship such as engines, cockpits, shields, weapons, and storage areas. These components provide access to vital abilities and options that can significantly improve a ship’s performance. Each component has its own set of statistics that must be carefully balanced to ensure optimal ship functionality.

Different manufacturers are likely to have unique characteristics such as being fast but vulnerable, slow but strong, or having superior firepower. The flexibility of this ship building system allows players to create a wide range of vessels within established rules and budgets.

3.5 Unique Gameplay Mechanics and Interactions

In addition to the signature Bethesda gameplay elements we’ve come to love, Starfield promises to introduce unique mechanics and interactions. From interstellar trade routes to complex dialogues, the game aims to immerse players in a living, breathing universe. Prepare for surprises around every corner, as you navigate the intricate web of relationships and choices that will shape your cosmic odyssey.

Graphics and Gameplay Footage

During the Starfield Direct event, Bethesda Game Studios shared over 40 minutes of gameplay footage, showcasing various aspects of the game, including combat, exploration, and character creation4.
